“We had Ben The Builder team remodel the top floor of our home, complete overhaul of three bedrooms and two bathrooms. Ben was a pleasure to work with during the design phase, always very accommodating and professional. Where we had specific asks he made it happen, and in areas we didn’t know where to start, he provided options and suggestions. Once the project kicked off, John was extremely easy to work with during day to day activities. “Ben the Builder converted two rooms in our house – one to a media room and one to an exercise room. The media room had been a basement and was totally unfinished, the exercise room was an adjoining room that had subfloor, electrical, and insulation.

The project was pretty much flawless. Our on-site supervisor, John, was a joy to work with. We appreciated how communicative he was about everything – we always knew what was happening and what to expect – a skill that he has honed to an art – and he was just plain fun to have around. In addition, all of Ben’s crew and subs were top-notch, friendly, and expert at their professions.

Ben provided a fixed-fee contract, so we never worried about getting hit for “extras”. His initial estimate was higher than others, but we had no concerns about the cost increasing from the contract price – which was important to us, as we didn’t want any surprises. I am an engineer, and well-versed in the pitfalls of other types of construction contracts. In addition, I have initiated and managed six remodels and two house builds for my personal homes, and this remodel was the easiest by far.

We will be singing Ben’s praises to anyone who needs a recommendation for a contractor. He is simply the best.”

“Looking around our vacant Ashland bungalow, we realized everything was damaged, worn out, broken, outdated or just plain unattractive. We wondered how we could possibly undertake a complete renovation of our beloved little home. It became clear that we would need a competent contractor who could take everything out and away, and start over! Luckily, we knew of Ben the Builder. Several months later, we met Ben and his foreman, John, at the property for our final walk through. What an amazing transformation! Every aspect of the job was handled at the highest level, from design and installation of a new energy efficient heat/AC system to design and installation of a completely remodeled kitchen and bath, to all new floors, paint, hardware, laundry, attic insulation!

Ben and Rachel were an absolute pleasure to work with, knowledgeable and flexible and creative as they walked us through all the choices we needed to make before the job began, and throughout the duration of the job. The work was done according our predetermined schedule, and involved a number of subcontractors who gave the job their highest effort. Cabinets, paint, plumbing, electrical – all came together for a fabulous final result. We give Ben the Builder and his team the highest possible grade and enthusiastically recommend him for any type of building project. Five stars!”

 “Ben did a major renovation in my 100-year-old home that included our kitchen and an adjacent stairwell, laundry room, and bathroom. The project was a total gut that included demolition of a dropped ceiling that had flooded with sewage.

He rebuilt the exterior doorway, replaced all the original plumbing and electrical in the kitchen and basement, handled asbestos abatement, and refurbished the original windows, pantry built-ins, and as much trim that could be salvaged. 

The new kitchen has all-new subfloor and flooring, tile, light fixtures, custom-designed cabinets, wood trim in the historic style, and paint. 

The project also included lots of “honey-do” add-ons that included hand-fitted “dutchmen” in old doorways, several custom-made screen doors, and rehabilitating all the old window, door, and cabinet hardware. They also replaced multiple false beams under the eaves on our home’s two-story exterior. 

The renovation was a huge undertaking, but Ben was always sensitive and accommodating. His crew and subcontractors are pleasant and professional, and I never felt uncomfortable being home alone with any of them. 

I have never collaborated with a more skilled and professional contractor. Ben is not intimidated by the idiosyncrasies and surprises inherent in tackling a historic property, and our renovation reflects the high level of his professionalism and craftsmanship. We could not be happier with the outcome.”
