Deck cost in Ashland, 2026

What a new deck costs in Ashland in 2026

A new composite or cedar deck runs about $175 to $295 per square foot in Ashland and southern Jackson County in 2026. A two-level cedar deck with a long stairway came to about $185 per square foot in 2026; lower, simpler decks with little railing or stairway can cost less. A 290 square foot composite deck about four feet off the ground is most likely about $58,000, with a range of $47,000 to $70,000. Tall decks and covered decks run about $265 per square foot and up.

These figures come from our own decks, repriced to today’s labor, material and subcontractor costs. They are a ballpark, not a quote. Updated October 2026.

Deck Most likely Range
200 sq ft, composite, about 4 feet up $43,000 $34,000 to $51,000
290 sq ft, composite, about 4 feet up $58,000 $47,000 to $70,000
290 sq ft, cedar, about 4 feet up $56,000 $45,000 to $67,000
400 sq ft, composite, about 4 feet up $77,000 $62,000 to $93,000
290 sq ft, composite, 12 feet up $79,000 $63,000 to $94,000
290 sq ft, composite, with a roof over it $77,000 $61,000 to $92,000
290 sq ft, new decking, railing and stairs on the existing frame $40,000 $32,000 to $48,000

Each row replaces an old deck of about the same size, reusing its concrete footings where they are sound, with new framing on a new waterproofed ledger, decking, a cedar railing and one stairway. A deck where there was none needs all new footings and costs about $5,000 more.

What drives the cost

  • Height. A deck 12 feet up needs scaffolding, taller posts and longer stairs, and costs about $21,000 more than the same deck four feet up.
  • Stairs. Each added stairway adds about $9,000.
  • A roof over the deck adds about $19,000 to a 290 square foot deck.
  • Levels. Two levels at different heights cost more than one.
  • Railing. Metal railing costs about the same as wood. A drink rail on top of the railing adds by the foot.
  • Material. Composite and cedar are within a few thousand dollars of each other. We build with cedar and composite.
  • Wildfire decking. In Ashland, most decks 30 inches to 12 feet off the ground need fire-rated decking. On a composite deck it adds about $2,000.
  • A hot tub. We include its dedicated circuit when you ask for one. Its weight may call for an engineer.

Decks we’ve built

  • William Way, Talent. A TimberTech composite deck off a new sliding door, with a step down to the yard, closed-in sides and a stained Douglas fir pergola, as part of a larger remodel.
  • Glenview Drive, east Ashland. A waterproof deck on the roof of a garage, with a new entry and structural repair. The whole job would cost about $230,000 to $380,000 to build today.
  • Nutley Street, Ashland. New front stairs and a back deck, along with a kitchen and primary bathroom remodel.

What these numbers don’t include

  • Planning, which is billed hourly under its own agreement.
  • Engineering, when a deck needs it.
  • A waterproof deck over living space or a garage. These vary too much to price by the square foot.
  • Ipe or other hardwoods, glass railing and cable railing.
  • Very small decks, under about 100 square feet, which cost more per square foot.

Permit fees are included. Oregon’s code exempts decks no more than 30 inches above the ground from a building permit. We confirm what yours needs.
